Below is a description and links to helpful resources while taking my German Course
On the bottom of this page I have included some links to articles that offer good advice to parents in supporting their children in second language study. Personally in my 10 years of teaching foreign language I have found that focusing on one group of vocabulary at a time and then using it and exposing yourself to it in various interesting contexts that relate to you and your world is best. I do this in my instruction on a daily basis. The curriculum I use has a resource page where there are links to cultural and video resources that correspond with the curriculum as I go along. I would encourage you to check out these resources then share the ones that you feel are appropriate with your child. The curriculum was originally designed for Middle School Students in mind but the poster of the links also writes warnings next to some of the resources that they may not be appropriate for younger students. http://www.sabineundmichael.com/Sabine_und_Michael/G-1.html Most of them are interesting though! The link I gave you above links to unit G-1 resources. If you simply click on the RESOURCES LINK on the navigation bar you will see all the units listed on the left.
Here too are links to Quia Games and Flash Cards that follow the units I'll be covering. http://www.quia.com/pages/sabineundmichael1.html http://www.quia.com/jg/1414027.html http://www.quia.com/pages/herrhutson.html
Also if your child is ever unsure on the meaning of a word this is by far the best online dictionary for German: http://dict.leo.org/ende?lang=en&lp=ende
Reading texts with vocabulary they are familiar with and can be successful with is also very helpful. Here is a link to an online reader that progressively coincides with the vocabulary and units I teach. http://www.quia.com/pages/herrhutson.html
